End of the first quarter.

This week is our last of this quarter. CRAZY!

I have a Kindergarten class of 22 Colombian, Spanish speaking students. They are 5-6 years old and the cutest terrors on the face of the earth. They are almost always speaking Spanish and I always have to try to translate so that they can hear how to say things in English.

Here's a video of my kids singing one of their Spanish vowel songs.

Some things about Colombian culture. Every child is a little prince or princess. I was told that when I tell my students "no" it may be the first time they've ever heard the word said to them. This makes for interesting classes. Most Colombians understand there are rules but decided that there can be exceptions made for them. This results in cutting in lines and doing some thing that someone else was just told not to do. You must, must, must greet everyone you know when you see them. Don't jump into your questions without saying hello and asking how they are doing. The proper greeting is a kiss on the cheek or touching your cheek to the other person's and making an audible kissing noise. Hand every thing, don't plop it on the desk and don't throw it. Always hand sharp objects by holding the sharp end (and try not to cut yourself). Being dirt is absolutely unacceptable. Time means nothing and you can count on everything being late if you set a time for it to happen.

I love Colombia and I can't wait for our fall break next week to explore the city!
